"The Harvest is Abundant"
"The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers
for his harvest." When these words of Jesus (Lk
10:2) are repeated nowadays, reference is
usually made to the "shortage" of priests. And, to be
sure, there is much need for prayer and generous
dedication on our part, that more young men be brave and
selfless enough to embrace priestly lives.
Yet the first four words Christ spoke also have
meaning in and of themselves: there is much good to be
found in the Church and in the world nonetheless. The
bounty of the produce, the miracle of its abundant
growth -- these are are marvels too, apart from the
harvester's sickle and basket.
The priests, deacons, religious and laity of
the Diocese of Baton Rouge, under the leadership of
Bishop Robert Muench, rejoice that there is much being
accomplished already, as well as more work to do! Please
be part of the abundance: its planting, its nurturing,
its growth and ultimately its bountiful harvest! |
