In 1926 Pope Pius XI instituted Mission Sunday for the whole Church with the first worldwide Mission Sunday collection taking place in October 1927. The Mission Sunday collection is always taken on the next to last Sunday during the month of October. That day is celebrated in all the local Churches as the feast of catholicity and universal solidarity so Christians the world over will recognize their common responsibility with regard to the evangelization of the world.
In an effort to embrace and welcome the members of our Church with special needs and their families, the Diocese of Baton Rouge has begun hosting Sensory-Friendly Masses.
These Masses include lower lighting, softer music, and shorter, more literal homilies;
most importantly, they provide fellowship with other parishioners on a similar journey. We encourage families and individuals to get up and move if needed, to bring alternative seating, fidgets or noise cancelling headphones, and to participate in the liturgy just as they are.

The Bishop Stanley J. Ott Assembly 224l is hosting its annual Thanksgiving turkey fry. Dinners are $55 each and include a while fried turkey with giblet gravy. St. John the Baptist Church, 4727 McHugh Dr., Zachary, is collecting new or gently used religious items to send to parishes in areas where parishioners sustained great losses due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton. A collection box is in the vestibule of the church or may be dropped off at the church office during the week. Items may include, but not limited to, rosaries, Bibles, spiritual reading materials, spiritual music CDs, etc. No glass items or candles. Listen - Hear the stories and experiences of redemption from formerly incarcerated citizens in a small group setting while having the opportunity to ask questions and engae in fruitfull conversation.
Engage - Grow in hope and understanding of the human person created in God's image while becoming inspired to be more active members of our Church through corporal works of mercy.
Join us for family-friendly adapted activities (i.e., food, arts & crafts, face painting, inflatables, games, and more) at our 2nd Annual Family Fun Day for individuals with exceptional needs and their families.
The Diocese of Baton Rouge supports the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. There are 40 million people in the United States living in in poverty. This collection supports programs that empower local communities to address the challenges they face. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development supports those living in poverty across the country. It identifies and addresses the unique obstacles people face as they work to lift themselves out of poverty. In addition, 25% of the funds we collect will remain in our diocese to fund local antipoverty projects. By supporting this collection, you are giving those on the margins a hand up, not a handout. Please be generous.
