The Catholic Life Center, opened in 1966, was the vision of the founding Bishop of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, The Most Reverend Robert E. Tracy. Bishop Tracy, inspired by his three years as a participant in the Second Vatican Council in Rome, developed the CLC as a model diocesan administrative, educational, and service-oriented building.
The CLC is located on an 11-acre tract of land at the corner of South Acadian Thruway and Hundred Oaks Avenue in Baton Rouge. A major expansion was completed in 2000 which included a new facility to house Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, a new Westerfield Center (for meetings and retreats), and conversion of the St. Joseph Preparatory School for use as an overnight retreat center.
The Office of Facilities Management is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Catholic Life Center Campus' Administration Building, Tracy Center, Westerfield Center and Catholic Charities.
