Bishop Michael G. Duca of Baton Rouge ordained two men to the diocesan priesthood at a Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2023, at St. Joseph Cathedral.
The two men ordained were Albert Blount and Joseph Bresowar.
“We welcome these two young men to the priesthood and thank them for answering ‘Yes!’ to God’s call to a priestly vocation. We also thank their families, friends, and prayer companions for their accompaniment during the ordinands’ years of formation. We encourage other men who might be discerning a call to religious life to ‘Come and See’ whether God is indeed inviting them to ordained ministry,” Bishop Duca said.
In a recent announcement concerning clergy assignments, Bishop Duca announced Fr. Blount will serve as parochial vicar of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville, and Fr. Bresowar will serve as parochial vicar of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs.
Fr. Blount, a Houma native, converted to Catholicism approximately ten years ago while attending Christ the King Parish at LSU as an engineering student. He said he initially resisted a call to the priesthood though many different people told him, after his conversion, that he would be a priest one day. While on a silent retreat in 2015, when in Eucharistic adoration, he heard the Lord ask him, “Will you be a priest?”
“It was a simple yes,” he says. “I really believed [then] the Lord is calling me to be a priest.”
Fr. Bresowar, a Gonzales native, grew up Catholic and attended St. Theresa of Avila Church. It was while majoring in engineering at LSU and attending Christ the King that he seriously began considering a vocation to the priesthood. It came when he was ready to say, “I need more Jesus in my life,” and he knew “he had to deal with it, because otherwise, nothing made sense until I dealt with the fundamental question.”
The two newly ordained priests will report to their first assignments on July 1. 2023.
