Abundant is this miracle, yes, miracle of Jesus, as he multiplied the five loaves and two fish to feed the multitude so eager to hear his voice and see more signs. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches “the miracles of the multiplication of the loaves, when the Lord says the blessing, breaks and distributes the loaves through his disciples to feed the multitude, prefigure the superabundance of this unique bread of his Eucharist” (Para 1335), This miracle, yes, miracle of Jesus, points us to a greater miracle to come, that being the bread of life, the bread of the angels, the bread that is blessed, broken and given for all, the Eucharist, “the source and summit of the Christian life” (Catechism 1324). Do I realize the superabundance of life in Christ? What has Jesus multiplied from nothing to overflowing? Am I seeking Jesus because of signs or rather from the desire to be in relationship with him? Am I seeking to encounter Jesus in the Eucharist?
Year of St. Joseph
Holy, St. Joseph, with courage you were the shepherd for Mary and Jesus. Through your intercession may we clearly hear and closely follow the voice of our Good Shepherd, our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
