Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, has collected and delivered more than 189 million shoebox gifts to children in more than 160 countries and territories. Students and faculty at Holy Ghost School in Hammond filled approximately 200 shoeboxes to help in this worthwhile cause. In a grassroots movement among some young ladies at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Pierre Part, a new Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court, Marie Pleine de Grace #2713, has been established.
I recently finished a book study with my Carmelite community. We read “God, the Joy of my Life,” a biography of St. Teresa of the Andes. We learned that during the canonization process (Vatican officials) reviewed certain parts of her life.
Freshly into the new liturgical year, we celebrate the Second and Third Sundays of Advent. As many are preparing for upcoming Christmas gatherings, the Gospel readings point us to the “messenger of the covenant” (Mal 3:1).

Knights of Columbus Council #10178 of St. Margaret Church in Albany hosted a Silver Rose Service on Oct. 27 to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe and reaffirm their dedication to the sanctity of life. The evening began with a rosary followed by the service, which included the telling of Our Lady’s appearances to St. Juan Diego in 1531 and the miracles that followed.
